Argumentative Literacy in the Social Studies Classroom

Argumentative or Authentic Literacy is defined as Reading, Writing and Discussion by Schmoker in his Results Now book. Our workshop this week focused on the Discussion phase or argumentation part of literacy. This includes engaging students in discussion and allowing them to use their oral skills. During our workshop several discussion formats were presented. To learn more about these formats please view our Argumentive Literacy Powerpoint.
